Spotsylvania County General District Court

Spotsylvania County General District Court

Most adult criminal cases in Spotsylvania County begin in the Spotsylvania County General District Court, though there are some exceptions.  The courthouse is located at the following address:

9111 Courthouse Road

Spotsylvania, Virginia 22553

Most dockets are handled by the Honorable Richard T. McGrath and the Honorable Jane M. Reynolds, though on some days substitute judges preside.

Parking is ample.  I advise most clients to leave their phone in the car.  Phones are not allowed in the courthouse.  The Sheriff’s staff will not watch your phone for you.  Your possessions will be x-rayed and you will have to pass through a metal detector before you will be granted access to the courtroom.  The courtroom is in front of you to your right as you walk through the detector.  Once you are through security, you can check the bulletin board for your name.

No shorts or hats are allowed in the courtrooms.  You may not put your hands in your pockets while you are before the court.  Some matters are heard at counsel tables, while some are handled from the podium in front of you.  The bailiffs will tell you where to stand or sit when your case is called.
